Behavior is communication. When behavior gets in the way of learning, the IEP must address it.
Tools the school uses
- Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) to understand why the behavior happens.
- Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) with positive strategies and supports.
Discipline protections
If your child is removed for more than 10 school days, the school must hold a Manifestation Determination Review to decide whether the behavior is related to the disability.
